Quilting challenges can be a fun way to try a new technique, new colors, and flex your design muscles. Since 2018, Triangle MQG has had a yearly challenge. Amazing entries have been on display and some of these also end up in QuiltCon.
How do the challenges work?
- The challenge specifics are announced in March with a final submission deadline of October 31.
- Quilts must be an original design
- Submissions are done via an on-line form and members submit two photographs of the quilt. One photo of the full quilt and the other close up of the detail. Information collected also includes quilt size, information on contributors (if applicable), plus overall thoughts on inspiration
- In early November, guild members receive an email with the opportunity to via the digital images and then make their selection for Viewer’s Choice.
- Votes are tallied and the winner is announced in the November guild meeting. Prizes for winners are made available from challenge sponsors.
Official guidelines exist for these challenges:
- Quilt can be of any size
- Quilts can use solids, prints or both
- Quilt must be finished (i.e. quilted) and either bound or faced
- Quilt must be finished between the March guild meeting (when challenge is announced) and October 31 of the same calendar year
- Quilt design must be original
- Each guild member is allowed one individual challenge entry.
- Prizes will be awarded for Viewer’s Choice and randomly to at least one participant
