We are very excited to announce our next guild workshop – Einstein Tiles and English Paper Piecing presented by Itnuit Janovitz

Last year, a newly discovered shape – called an einstein tile – grabbed the attention of mathematicians and quilters! The “Einstein Tile” is a thirteen-sided shape that covers a plane using only itself, with no gaps, and no repeats in the placement. It is called an Einstein Tile, not after Albert Einstein, but a play on “ein stein” in German, meaning “one stone”. This unique shape – which looks a bit like a hat – can be constructed using kite shaped EPP units.
In this workshop you will learn about mathematical tilings and the recently discovered einstein monotiles. Then we will incorporate these ideas into English paper piecing designs.
Workshop Contents
- Tessellations (your new favorite math thing!)
- Aperiodic Monotiles and why all the fuss…y cut!
- English paper piecing hat monotile design, techniques and inspiration

- Quilters interested in English Paper Piecing – beginners welcome!
- Avid EPPers looking for new ideas and challenges.
