Block Lottery – Analogous Curves

Every month, we’ll announce a quilt block for members to make for the following month’s guild meeting. You can make as many blocks as you want and for every block you make, you will be entered into a drawing for ALL THE BLOCKS! From there, winners can let their creativity fly with the block winnings.

For June, we are collecting blocks with at least two curves using an analogous curves color palette.

Here are the details for the June block:

  • Description: Analogous Curves
  • Block Size: 10 1/2” unfinished
  • Fabric : 3 analogous colors, solid
  • Skill to Explore: color, curves

Instructions:

  • Choose 3 analogous colors. Analogous colors are colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. Start with any color on the color wheel and then select the color on either side of the color you selected (for example: blue, blue-green, and green). Feel free to vary the saturation and/or value.
  • Using your selected colors, create a block that has a minimum of 2 curves. You can choose to create an improv block, use precision piecing, or applique.  See links below for inspiration and tutorials (if desired).
  • Press and trim your block to 10 ½” by 10 ½”.

 Rules:

Follow the guidelines for the block announced at each meeting

  • Use quilt store quality cotton for your blocks unless announced otherwise
  • 1 block = 1 entry into the lottery; bring all completed blocks to the meeting to be eligible for the drawing
  • Multiple winners may be drawn depending on the number of blocks submitted
  • Have fun!
