Announcing Free Motion Quilting Workshop

We are excited to announce that our very own Melissa Woodward will be teaching a Free Motion Quilting workshop. The workshop will be held on June 7th, 2026, 2-6pm at Bernina World of Sewing.

Melissa has free motion quilted hundreds of projects, including award winning quilts, a best in show quilt coat, and a quilt that hung at QuiltCon.  Free motion quilting is her favorite part of the quilting process, and she cannot wait to show you how to create depth, texture, enhancement, and detail with your quilting using the machine you already own.

This workshop will teach quilters with varying levels of experience with free motion quilting tips, tricks, and skills to free motion quilt using your domestic machine.  As long as the feed dogs can be dropped and there is a free motion or darning foot for the machine, you can do this!

Skills that will be covered:

  • how to set up the machine
  • tools that are helpful for FMQ on a domestic
  • motifs to use
  • how to quilt different shapes
  • all over designs
  • combining designs
  • borders
  • fillers
  • transitioning
  • finishing techniques and troubleshooting

The workshop fee for Triangle MQG members is $35 and is $45 for non-members.

Registration for Triangle MQG members will open May 16 at 8 am. Members will be sent an email with the registration link. A waitlist will also be available once the workshop sells out.

Cancellation policy: Workshop seats will be refundable (minus a $5 transaction fee) if the seat is filled from a waitlist.
